How We Perform Microsoft 365 Migrations

When we perform your Microsoft 365 migration, we focus on moving your mailboxes from your on-premises network location to their new Microsoft 365 cloud location. We select one of four main migration formats to complete the process:

  • Staged Migration: With this format, we move everything over from on-premises Microsoft Exchange mailboxes to Microsoft 365 Exchange Online mailboxes in batches. We move all the batches over a specific period of time, such as several weeks or months. You can still access your on-premises mailboxes during the migration.
  • Cutover Migration: A cutover migration immediately transfers your mailboxes from on-premises to Exchange Online. We often use this migration format for small businesses because the process requires less time when you have fewer mailboxes to migrate.
  • Hybrid Migration: If you use this migration format, we can integrate Microsoft 365 into your network alongside your on-premises Exchange servers. Then you can move your workforce’s mailboxes in and out of Exchange Online as needed. When you use a hybrid migration, you gain extra flexibility that the first two formats don’t offer.
  • Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) Migration: Unlike the three previous migration formats, IMAP migrations don’t rely on Exchange. We use this migration format to migrate mailboxes from GMail and other non-Exchange mailboxes to Microsoft 365.
